ĀROH

Welcome to the official website of Āroh E-Magazine.

ĀROH is a Sanskrit word which means progress, rising, advancement and good change. We have extended this idea to materialize the e-magazine. The E-magazine is divided into five parts, each representing a season.

Each season is a progress compared to the next and they are inevitable. Arohana or Aroha, in the context of Indian classical music is the ascending scale of notes in a raga. Like the Arohana in Carnatic music, we rise and make progress.

Human beings prosper and advance through difficulties to become stronger.

Starting with the hot summer months and ending in beautiful spring, ĀROH will represent each and every student of Semester-4 Integrated M.A English Language and Literature students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri and their musings about life.

We hope this magazine will be a way for you, the readers to see our class from a new perspective as each submission represents a diverse set of ideas and voices.

Since ancient times the vast glaciated heights of the Himalayas have played a supreme role for the Ecology and Culture of India. The Himalayas are a source of origin of the great rivers of India. The Himalayan range also has many of Earth’s highest peaks, including the highest, Mount Everest. The Sanskrit name Himalaya, derived from hima (“snow”) and alaya (“abode”) has been personified as the king of all mountains- as Giriraj Himavat.

Important for ecology, climate, hydrology, geology and culture, The Himalayas also are home to a diversity of medicinal resources and have been previously transcribed as Himmaleh, as in Emily Dickinson’s poetry and David Thoreau’s essays.

We have incorporated the same idea in the visuals and cover of the E-magazine ĀROH, which means rising, advancement or progress.

The Himalayas symbolize the apex of every achievement that a person can conquer, and to us, this magazine is one step closer to the great journey of life to reach the top. The Himalayas symbolize our progress and rising, making progress in life.

Happy Reading!!
